Nonrepresentational Painting & Explosion Books

Students learned the difference between abstract and nonrepresentational before completing a painting. We discussed emotions and color psychology and watched the movie Inside Out. Students cut up their nonrepresentational painting and then pasted it into their explosion books. The book folds into a 5x5 square and opens up to reveal the inside folds like the images you see below.

Radial Symmetry Origami

Students learned the history of origami and followed along with teacher instruction to master 5 different origami folds. Students then chose multiple colors to create a symmetrical composition using the learned folds.

Ceramics Animal Mugs & Pinch Pot Monsters

Students learned about ceramics, pottery, hand, slab, coil and pinch methods of creating projects to complete two kiln fired projects. Students glazed animal mugs and used acrylic paint to complete their monsters.

Holiday Cards

WCSD holds an annual competition for students to complete a holiday card in the medium of their choosing. Students used watercolors, tempera paint, colored pencils and markers to complete their holiday cards. Cards could not contain any religious or copywrited character references.

Perspective Houses

Students designed their own one or two point perspective houses after learning the fundamentals, practicing with shapes, cubes and differing vanishing points. Students needed to choose between a decorated holiday house or a spooky theme.
